Description

The skills I have developed during my 39 year career at an electric utility are now proving beneficial to my research which requires attention to detail, deductive reasoning, effective communications, comfort with internet navigation, critical analysis of records, use of Microsoft software and methods for organizing a project. Attending seminars and continuing education have all contributed to my education as a genealogist and my desire to instruct others in best research practices and to encourage them to begin their own research.

I maintain a yearly paid subscription to Ancestry.com and maintain memberships in a number of genealogy societies and newspaper subscription sites. I am a member of the Mayflower lineage society.

CLASS OUTLINE: "Genealogy 101 - Learn how to get started researching your family tree. If you are brand new to family research or have begun but not sure what to do next, join me for two nights of lively discussion about genealogy and best practices in research.

Class 1: We will have casual discussions to learn what your personal objectives are. We will discuss best practices. You will receive handouts with a list of Internet websites that may be useful to you and a blank pedigree chart that I will show you how to fill out.

Class 2: Using your personal pedigree chart, I will do some live internet searches for you to demonstrate what records are freely available and how to interpret them. We will also discuss methods of organizing your work. Come prepared to have lots of fun and make new discoveries about your family!"
